Hung
Yen province situated in the central fertile red river delta in the
Northern region of Vietnam, shares border with Bac Ninh on the north,
Hai Duong on the east, Thai Binh on the southeast, Ha Tay on the west,
Hanoi on the northwest, Nam Ha on the south and southwest. Cover
province an area of 923,1 km2 with population of 1.068.705 people
(1.04.1999). The province headquarter called Hung Yen town which was
separated from Hai Hung in 1995. Hung Yen has a tropical monsoon
climate, dividing into two seasons: hot and cold seasons. The average
annual temperature is around 23 degrees. The topography of the province
is relatively flat, with so many lakes, rivers that are very convenient
for communication. This place is very famous for Pho Hien site, a
busiest trading port from 17th century. There are many other unique
historical sites such as: Kim Chung pagoda, Nam Hien temple…especially,
Hung Yen is very famous for longan trees- a kind of rich protein and
sweet fruit. Hung Yen is also the habitant of ancient Vietnamese. The
archaeologists had discovered the ancient tomb in Tu Lac, cooper hack,
bronze drum of Lac Viet people. Hung Yen is also the homeland of many
cultural celebrities, national heroes, and this is arising land and
conservation of the cultural unique folk music of Vietnam as xam, a dao,

Hien Pagoda
Location: Hien Pagoda situated in Hien Ha Street, Hong Chau ward, and Hung Yen province.
Features:
Legend said that the pagoda was built by To Hien Thanh in the period of
Tran dynasty. Hien Pagoda was named “Thien Ung "under the alias name of
King Tran Thai Tong (1232-1250).
Hien pagoda has "internal and
overseas” architecture, including the upper hall and a corridor on three
sides. Between the upper house was Quan Am Nam Hai statue in sitting
position, with eight pairs of hands. Her head is covered by hat carved
the chrysanthemum, lotus, and cotton-rose hibiscus. The front is four
Bodhisattva statues sit on a lotus, plump face, dignified. These statues
are dated in the 19th century. The upper Power set the altar with four
Guan Yin Bodhisattva statues expressing the beliefs of the gods who help
people living on river and sea. This is a difference in the layout of
the temple worship of Hien Pagoda from other ones.
Hien Pagoda Two
stone steles are in the front yard which preserved many historical
documents about the process of habitant from the old trading port of Pho
Hien. There are a lot of steles which have been persevered for many
years.
Hien pagoda is place very famous for ancient longan tree that
situated in front of the pagoda gate. This logan tree has beautiful
shape, big size, thick, soft flesh and special taste. When the logan get
ripped, people often brought to pagoda for offering to the Buddha,
praying the royal and local village tutelary , the king. The main trunk
was old and there is only one branch which presents a symbol of
specialty longan of Pho Hien - Hung Yen. Chu Dong Tu Temple
Location:
Chu Dong Tu Temple consists of two temples: Da Hoa temple in Da Hoa
village, Binh Minh commune, and Da Trach Temple in Yen Vinh village, Da
Trach commune, Khoai Chau district, Hung Yen province.
FEATURES:
Both temples are the worships of Holy Chu Dong Tu and two his wives.
Chu Dong Tu Temple has been present in many places cross of Vietnam.
Khoai Chau district belong to Hung Yen province, about 25km away from
Hanoi, which accessibility long in the Red River dykes, there are two
Holy Chu Dong Tu temples, first one located in the territory of Da Hoa
village, Binh Minh commune, in the Red River overlooking Natural Beach
where the beautiful princess Tien Dung who was the daughter of King Hung
18th- met and got married with the poor guy Chu Dong Tu; The second
temple belongs to Yen Vinh village, Da Trach commune, where Chu Dong Tu
and his wives flied to the heavens.
Although the two temples have
traditional architectural styles where are the worships of Saint Chu
Dong Tu and his wives, there is a significant difference. Da Hoa Temple
(recognized as national cultural relics in 1962) situated on high, wide,
flat, rectangular ground with the area of 18.720 m2, beautiful scenery,
overlooking towards the Nature Beach. The overall architecture has 18
ancient houses as the 18 curve boats representing 18 Hung kings.
Ngo Mon Gate includes 3 doors. The main gate is three high buildings;
two dragons on top (only open on holidays). Two side doors are the main
places to welcome visitors from all over the world. Through the big yard
is the Great International University, Thien Huong building, De Nhi and
De Tam palaces and Queen apartments in the end. Thien Huong building
has high, clear and dignified architecture. It was carved carefully,
detailed, vibrant colors and many other decorations such as dragons,
lions. In the provision of De Nhi are carved phoenix birds, daisy and
fruits that were painted gorgeous lacquer yellow. Especially, Saint Chu
Dong Tu and his wives beautiful statues are cast by bronze.
Da
Hoa Temple nowadays still preserved many precious relics, including the
Long life Double Bottles (one hundred difference longevities characters
which do not resemble any letters, all engraved on a ceramic pot), a
priceless antiques of the nation. Da Trach temple located in the open
space next to Da Trach swamp (the vestige was recognized in 1989).
Main
structure from the outside into the inside including Bell Upper floor,
Crescent Lake, through the courtyard to the temple composed of three
buildings. The entire interior and exterior architectural features made
temples ancient. Chu Dong Tu festival was held from February 10th to
12th lunar month every year in both temples.
